My research spans statistical theory, methodology, computation, software development, and applications. I develop flexible and powerful methods for analyzing large, complex datasets and apply them to real-world problems. My current interests include machine learning, nonparametric and semiparametric methods, smoothing splines, mixed-effects models, state-space models, graphical models, survival analysis, longitudinal and functional data analysis, and biostatistics.
