Title: Integrating Technological Tools and Innovative Pedagogy to Improve Student Learning Outcomes in Introductory Statistics Courses

Abstract:

Motivating and engaging students in introductory statistics courses have intrigued many educators for decades. Pedagogical research has explored several interventions and high-impact practices to make basic statistics accessible to students with limited quantitative skills. Each innovative pedagogy has its merits and challenges, and each student has a unique learning style. This talk will highlight how strategic course redesign helps increase student success rates and reduce achievement gaps in Introductory Statistics courses. The proposed course design integrates technological tools and innovative pedagogies to create an engaging learning experience. To assess this course design, Itaught two sections of the same course, one with a traditional approach and the other with the new course design. I used common assessments and compared student performance in both sections. The data obtained through the semester shows promising improvement in student success rates and overall course grades. Please join me to look at the data and reflect on ways to help students see Statistics and use it to make informed decisions in their personal lives and careers.
