Statistics PhD student Mingzhao Hu was awarded the Research Accelerator award of $8000 by UCSB Graduate Division as part of the "2020 Summer Minigrants for Multidisciplinary Research on COVID-19" program.

 

Ming works with Prof. Yuedong Wang and will investigate the effects of COVID-19 on dialysis patients by utilizing first-hand recordings from treatment clinics. His research addresses computationally feasible smoothing of patient physiology and analyzing deviations during the pandemic. The hypothesis is that longitudinal variables such as blood pressure, oxygen saturation and hematocrit measured during dialysis contain valuable information of the patient’s respiratory performance.
