Registration & Accommodations Information

Conference will be held on the University of California, Santa Barbara campus nestled in between the Santa Barbara airport and the Pacific Ocean in the City of Goleta.

We are pleased to welcome SPA'05 attendees/guests in our on-campus ocean view Residence Halls. Those who choose to stay off-campus may purchase Campus Parking Package ($37) and Commuter Lunch Packet ($50). More details and cost information can be found on the Registration/On Campus Accommodation. Please note that the campus residence housing policy does not allow children under the age of 13 and if you are bringing younger children, please make off-campus arrangements in one of our nearby hotels (see hotels list below). Our apologies ahead of time for any inconvenience this may cause.

♤Complimentary shuttle bus service from Santa Barbara Airport: please phone *upon arrival* for free shuttle service (between 7am and 1am) to UCSB from the Santa Barbara Airport or from the Santa Barbara Airbus Goleta drop-off site. The drop-off at UCSB is located at your Residence Hall.

Complimentary parking: please request your complimentary parking permit while checking-in at the front desk.

No smoking environment: no smoking is allowed in, or within 20 feet of any University building (per UCSB policy)

Rooms are furnished with one or two single beds, desks, desk chair, small chest of drawers and a closet. (Rooms do not have telephones, televisions, radios or clocks.) Please see below for more information about on-campus phones and Internet access.

Fresh towels and light cleaning service are provided daily.

There is a comfortable lounge in each building with a television for guest use.

Laundry washer/dryer facilities (Must have a special card available at the front desk in order to use machines, they are not coin operated.)

We cannot provide "wake-up service"; therefore, you may wish to bring an alarm clock for your convenience.

Rooms are not equipped with telephones; cell phones are highly recommended. Residence Hall lobby is equipped with phones for local and credit or calling card calls. Residence Halls will also post phone messages on the Message Board located in the lobby of the halls. We will send you specific information in your confirmation email if you would like to give out a phone number where messages can be left for you.

When you check into the residence hall you will receive all of the information regarding a password and pin from our front desk, plus detailed instructions. ResNet provides each residence hall occupant with an in-room Ethernet connection through which they can access the campus networks and the Internet. Residential Computer Consultants (RCCs) are available to assist with computer-related support issues. Macintosh computer with MacOS X or above (configured for DHCP)

Santa Barbara can be cold at night. Bring a sweater and/or jacket.

UCSB Campus is located adjacent to Goleta beach. There will be opportunities to enjoy the beach and (hopefully) sunny climate! We recommend bringing the following items to the conference:

sun screen
dark glasses
swim suit
good walking shoes (walking/jogging path along beach)
old beach shoes (sometimes the beach has a little tar)



For those who choose not to stay in the campus residence hall, the following is a partial list of hotels in the area. Those who choose to stay off campus are responsible for making their own reservations. Summer is tourist season in Santa Barbara and early reservations are strongly advised. The majority of hotels do have a 72-hour policy for cancellation with no cancellation fees, please ask specific hotels when making reservations about their cancellation policy.

Blocks of rooms will be reserved until May 15, 2005 in the Pacifica Suites, Holiday Inn, Best Western South Coast Inn, and Hotel Oceana. All prices are subject to change and do not include a 10-12% tax; to confirm prices please call the hotels directly and make sure to mention "SPA'05 at UCSB" when making your reservation. PLEASE NOTE: rates for Friday and Saturday night stayovers are significantly higher.

For additional hotel listings, visit the Santa Barbara Conference & Visitor Bureau. Note that Goleta is closer to UCSB than Santa Barbara, although none of the hotels are walking distance. Several Goleta hotels provide a free shuttle to/from campus.
