The Robert and Barbara Lowes Scholarships in Financial Mathematics and Statistics will be awarded each year to talented undergraduate students based on the criteria of academic excellence who are enrolled in the Financial and Mathematics and Statistics major or pre-major. Compelling financial circumstances may also be considered but are not determinate factors for the scholarship recipients. Scholarship Overview The Lowes Scholarship will support a select number of undergraduate students heading into their junior or senior year of study who are declared Financial Mathematics and Statistics majors or pre-majors. In addition, Lowes scholarship recipients will play a critical role in K-12 outreach in the area of mathematics by volunteering at least two hours a week in a local school mentoring children. The amount of award will be based on the individual recipient’s unique financial and academic circumstances and could range from $1,000 to $3,000 per student annually. In addition, a portion of the scholarship would be used to reimburse student recipients for expenses related to their mathematics outreach activities in the schools. Application Deadline Nov. 1st for 2008-2009 Lowes Scholarship Please see the Undergraduate Program Assitant(undergradinfo@pstat.ucsb.edu) for more information.
